چکیده

Abstract Plastic pollution has become a serious issue of global concern, and biodegradation plastic wastes is representing one attractive environment-friendly alternative to traditional disposal paths. It known that insects are involved in the polymer degradation process, with reported evidence tenebrionid beetle larvae capable degrade polystyrene (PS), most used plastics worldwide. Recently, ribosomal RNA based survey on insect gut microbiota lesser mealworm Alphitobius diaperinus revealed differentially abundant microbial taxa between PS-fed control group. Following these findings, an enrichment bacterial culture was set up liquid carbon-free basal medium PS film as sole carbon source using A. inoculum. After two-months analysed both by molecular culture-based methods. Isolated bacteria which had prevalent under selective conditions resulted ascribable three taxonomic groups: Klebsiella , Pseudomonas Stenothrophomonas . The predominance groups confirmed 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, it consistent results previous reports. were able attach surfaces SEM observations showed presence thin fibrillar structures connecting cells abiotic surface.

The acquisition and internalization of Salmonella by the lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae).

In poultry broiler production facilities, it is important to understand the sources and contribution of reservoir populations of pathogens. The lesser mealworm beetle, Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer), is a common pest in poultry litter that is reported to carry pathogens affecting both human and animal health. This study investigates whether the carriage of a bacterial pathogen occurs by the ha...

Characterization of the larval stages of Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) using head capsule width.

The mean width (n = 5) of the cephalic capsule instar of Alphitobius diaperinus was determined. The larvae were reared at 27 degrees C (+/- 0.1 degrees C). The result showed that A. diaperinus has eight larval instars. The head capsule of the 1st instar larvae measured x = 0.228 (SD = 0.0192) and the last instar larval measured x = 1.339 (SD = 0.0436). The developmental rate, determined by Dyar...

Control of the Alphitobius Diaperinus (Panzer) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) with Entomopathogenic Fungi

The beetle Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer), considered a worldwide pest in the poultry industry, is difficult to control and it is a vector for pathogens. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biological control of the lesser mealworm, by strains of fungi Beauveria bassiana, Cladosporium sp. and Trichoderma sp. Larvae and adults of the A. diaperinus were inoculated with suspensions of...

Evaluation of Salmonella movement through the gut of the lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae).

AIMS The lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus is an important poultry pest prevalent during production that is capable of vectoring pathogens. This study was undertaken to determine the gut transit time of Salmonella for biosecurity risk analysis of pathogen dispersal into the environment. METHODS Adult and larval A. diaperinus were exposed to two concentrations of a fluorescently labeled ...
